Joseph Conrad

Joseph Conrad (1857–1924) was born Józef Korzeniowski in Russian-ruled Ukraine to Polish parents and spent twenty years at sea, including a 1890 voyage up the Congo. Settling in Kent, he wrote his novels in English, his third language.
