Ambrose Bierce

Ambrose Bierce (1842–1914?) was born in a log cabin on Horse Cave Creek in Meigs County, Ohio, the tenth of thirteen children, and grew up in Indiana. He fought for the Union at Shiloh and Chickamauga, then made his name in San Francisco as the most feared newspaper columnist in the West. In 1913, past seventy, he went to see the Mexican Revolution for himself and was never heard from again.
