Candide

Candide is taught that this is the best of all possible worlds, then gets kicked out of a Westphalian castle for kissing the baron's daughter. War, the Lisbon earthquake, the Inquisition, shipwreck and a detour through El Dorado put his tutor's optimism to a brutal test in this fast, savage satire.
