The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám

In quatrains attributed to an 11th-century Persian astronomer of Nishapur, a voice urges the reader to take the jug of wine and the loaf of bread while there is time. FitzGerald's free English version turned the poem into one of the most quoted of the Victorian age.
