The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling

A baby is found in Squire Allworthy's bed in Somerset and raised as his ward, growing into a good-hearted young man with no talent for keeping out of trouble. Thrown out and in love with the neighbour's daughter Sophia, Tom takes the road to London, through coaching inns, mistaken identities and a famously chaotic night at Upton.
