# Where do readers stop reading your book?

Maybe you know how many copies sold. But how many people looked at your book and walked away? How many started it? And if they stopped, was it chapter 2 or chapter 20? A sales report can’t tell you that chapter 4 is where you lose people.

## What your book’s stats show

For the last 30 days and all time: visits to your book’s page, sample chapters read by people who aren’t signed in, readers who started the book, readers who finished it, how many saved it to a bookshelf, how often your trailer was watched to the end, and the hours people spent reading it.

A week-by-week chart shows the last 12 weeks, and a list shows which countries your visitors come from. Your own visits, search engines and bots aren’t counted.

## How far readers get

This is the one most authors want: the share of readers who reached each chapter. A steady slope is normal. A big drop after one chapter shows where readers lose interest.

It appears once 5 readers have started your book, so no single reader can be picked out.

## Totals only, never who

LocalBooks never shows authors who visited, read or saved their book. The numbers are anonymous daily counts.

## Turning numbers into decisions

Lots of visits but few sample reads? Look at your cover and description. Many sample reads but few readers going on? Your opening chapters are doing the deciding. A cliff at one chapter? Read it again with fresh eyes, and check its [Echoes](https://localbooks.app/guides/authors/echoes). Visitors from a country you didn’t expect? That’s where to post next.

## How to see your book’s stats

1. **Open My books**: Sign in and go to My books.
2. **Open your book**: Click the book, then “See how this book is doing”.
3. **Read the totals**: Last 30 days at the top, all-time numbers under each one, then the weekly chart.
4. **Check how far readers get**: Once 5 readers have started, the chapter-by-chapter chart appears.
5. **Share your book’s page**: The numbers grow as people find your book. Sharing its page link is a good start.

## What it costs

Book stats come with every listing at no extra cost.

## Questions

### Why is “How far readers get” empty?

It appears once 5 readers have started your book, so no one reader can be identified.

### Do my own visits count?

No. Your own visits, search engines and bots are left out.

### Can I see which readers stopped?

No. Authors see totals only, never who.

### Does it include sales on other stores?

No. Stats count what happens on LocalBooks: visits, samples, reading, bookshelves and trailers.
